Food banks in the area are appealing for donations for families struggling during the festive season.

Bucks Box Food Bank, which covers the whole county, is collecting monetary donations (by cash or cheque) to spend on food for those who will find it difficult to make ends meet.

Within Buckingham itself, Buckingham Parish Church will continue to provide their usual service of food parcels to needy parishioners.

Towcester Foodbank will be on hand at the town’s Tesco from 9am to 4pm today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday, November 30, to ask shoppers for donations of non-perishable goods.

For those unable to visit Tesco on the two days, a weekly collection will be made from the Towcester Waitrose’s customer service desk and the Foodbank’s Riverside Centre is open on Mondays and Thursdays from noon-2pm.

Bicester foodbank are also collecting donations outside Tesco in Bicester, at Pingle Field today, Friday and tomorrow, Saturday.

On Sunday, December 1, there will be a toy service at St Edburg’s Church to give new toys to the children whose parents have been to the food bank during the year.

The church will also provide a Christmas Day meal for people who are lonely.

Useful items to donate include UHT or powdered milk, sugar, cartons of fruit juice, soup, pasta sauces, tinned sponge pudding, cereals, tea/coffee, pasta/rice, tinned meat, vegetables and fruit.
