A DISTRICT councillor has received an MBE for her work in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Councillor Sandra Barnes, former leader of South Northants Council, received an MBE for her services to local government.

Cllr Barnes, from Paulerspury, said: "I am really delighted. It's nice to know one's work is being recognised.

"But more importantly it is recognition for the council and all the staff that work there.

"It's been a really great experience and privilege to be the leader."

Also recognised on the Honours List is Major Robert Roper, Salvation Army Chaplin at Grendon Prison, in Grendon Underwood. He has received an MBE for his services to offenders.
