Try your hand at driving round one of the world’s most famous racing circuits this weekend at a road safety open day.
Silverstone Circuit will host the event, organised by Northants Police, to highlight road safety issues with the aim of reducing accidents on the county’s roads.
Get Road Smart@Silverstone runs from 10.30am-4pm on Sunday and includes the chance to win a passenger ride around the race track in a converted Formula 1 style car. There are also opportunities for riders and drivers of different ages to take vehicles around the circuit, which is home to the British Grand Prix.
Insp Jen Helm said: “We hope these out-of-the-ordinary activities and experiences, which have been designed to increase road safety awareness, will help members of the public become part of our county’s commitment to making Northamptonshire’s roads the safest in the county.”
Family activities include bicycles designed specifically for toddlers, a bicycle-powered Scalextric track and face painting.
There will be a hydraulic car crash simulator, police pursuit demonstrations and rescue demonstrations by the fire brigade. Drivers will also have the chance to use remote controlled cars while wearing beer goggles and safety experts will check child safety car seats to check they are installed correctly.
The free event has been organised as part of Operation Journey, Northants Police’s campaign to make the county’s roads the safest in the country.
