THIS is the first image to come out of revamped plans for a new community centre in Towcester.
Following the publication of the Towcester Masterplan this year the Tove Valley Baptist Fellowship modified their plans for the centre in Northampton Road.
The TVBP have had full planning permission for the two acre site for eight years but are now hoping to push the plans forward.
They want to build a 260 to 280 seat auditorium with staging, lighting and sound systems near The Shires Estate. The centre would also offer play group facilities, meeting rooms, and a cafeteria.
On Monday members of the Fellowship manned a marquee during the Family Fun Day on Towcester Recreation Ground. Around 30 people viewed the plans and took away feed back forms. The fellowship has also developed a website where the plans can be viewed.
Minister of TVBF, the Rev Paul Knight said “We understand that space matters to people, and so our aim is to see how best we can use the space on the Northampton Road.
“We are looking for a building which is both quantitatively and qualitatively appropriate, functional and inspirational for the people of Towcester, and communicates the values we have as a Church.”
Church member and volunteer project manager Lee Hillyard said parking space had been removed from the original plans to encourage use of greener forms of transport. He added that feedback would inform a pre-planning meeting with South Northants Council in the next few weeks.
He added: “We think it is only right to be interested in what the community thinks and most people who have seen the Towcester Masterplan have said the centre will be an enhancement to the town.”
Groups or organisations interested in using the centre are invited to view the plans at www.ToveValleyCentre.co.uk. Alternatively call Mr Hillyard on 07758 436033.
