MP for Brackley and Towcester, Andrea Leadsom
Whitsun recess starts tomorrow so I will be in Northamptonshire in the morning for a meeting with the superb Motorsport College at Silverstone, whose bid to open a new technical college is something I am proud to support. Then I will be off to the Upper Boddington HS2 roadshow.
I am then racing back to Westminster to hear the President of the United States address the Houses of Parliament in the afternoon. His thoughts on foreign policy in particular will be so important over the next few years of his presidency.
By the time you read this, HS2 roadshows will have been held at Greatworth, Chipping Warden and Upper Boddington but you still have a chance to come along to the Brackley Leisure Centre, in Springfield Way today, Friday, or tomorrow, Saturday to ask questions and have your say - I will definitely be there for part of each day.
Yesterday I met with the minister of transport, Mike Penning, MP, with the parents of Rhiannon Bennett to talk about updating the Wanton and Furious Driving Act of 1861 to ensure that future deaths from dangerous cycling could result in a prison sentence - which was not the case when Rhiannon was tragically knocked down and died as a result of her injuries. We are hoping it will be included in a road safety bill in the next parliamentary session.
The minister and I also met with the parents of another young person who was tragically killed in a road accident. I was impressed the minister is so determined to speak to and learn from those whose loved ones have been killed on our roads.
I was fortunate last week to be invited to the opening of the new Silverstone Wing - an iconic building that adds hugely to the world famous circuit -something for Northamptonshire to be truly proud of.
