Royal Horticultural Society fruit expert Gerry Edwards identified apple varieties brought in by customers while Fritz de Zutter was on hand to offer practical and technical fruit advice.

The garden centre’s Chris Day said: “Gerry was very busy and had some unusual varieties to identify. We had 82 varieties of apples and crab apples on display, which was brought together from places like Wolverton Road allotments in Stony Stratford. They have a community orchard.”

Also there was chef Chris Wright with apple inspired dishes, a Gawcott-based vineyard with some wines to sample and entertainment for the children. A tombola raised £149 for Medical Detection Dogs and for Breast Cancer Care. The apple display will head to Stowe this weekend.
