FORMER cyclists following the latest transport trend can learn all they need to know about getting back into the saddle by visiting the Green Buckingham Group website.
Quoting Sport England’s Active People Survey Mike Smith, a member of GBG and Buckingham Town Council, said there were 161,000 more people cycling during the first six months of this year.
At the same time the Department for Transport are reporting a four per cent reduction in cyclist road deaths between 2010 and 2011
Mr Smith said: “Those extra cyclists are regular users, they’re not just using their bikes once a week, they are using them to commute, go to the shops and get around.”
To make sure those ditching four wheels for two are fully prepared Mr Smith has collated a series of website links to organisations offering advice on safety, comfort and route planning.
The ‘on yer bike’ links are one of the latest editions to the GBG site which has been revamped this year. Members hope people using the site will generate content of their own. If you wish to publish a story, idea, or advice relating to the environment send it to the GBG via the Advertiser, 61-62 Well Street, Buckingham, MK18 1EN, or preferably email it to email@example.com.
The GBG is a partnership between Buckingham Town Council, The Buckingham and Winslow Advertiser, The University of Buckingham and town residents.
