Thornton College students showed they have hearts of gold, by raising the grand total of £1,791 for charity in a single fundraising day.

In a dress-down day, staff and pupils raised £1,018 through raffles and cake sales. They also collected a further £773 in coppers and change to create a giant ‘heart of coins’.

One Year 11 class amassed 4,322 coins in less than a week.

The money will go to Brain Tumour Research and Jesus and Mary Convents in Lebanon and Pakistan.
