MEMBERS of Whittlebury Golf Club have raised enough money to pay for over 300 hours of pioneering research into dementia.

Last week ladies captain Alison Williams and men’s captain Jim Finch handed a cheque for £6,700 to David Reed, a volunteer for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

During their year in office the club captains arrange golf competitions, auctions, and diners to raise the money. Financial forfeits for golfing errors also went towards the grand total.

Miranda May, fundraising manager for the charity said: “This is a brilliant result an we really appreciate all the efforts made by everyone at the club. The money raised will bring us closer to finding way to diagnose, prevent and cure dementia.

Mrs Williams said she and Mr Finch both had experience of dementia through close relatives.
