GPs in Oxfordshire will be responsible for buying healthcare for more than half a million people in the county from this week.

The Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG), which is led by GPs, other clinicians and lay people, started to commission hospital, community and mental health services on April 1.

OCCG is made up of 83 GP practices and will serve 650,000 people. It will have a budget of about £650million in 2013/14.
