People are being offered the chance to help light up a much-loved part of their heritage.
Buckingham’s Old Gaol Museum is about to undertake an ambitious project to redesign and replace all the internal lighting throughout the building.
And you can help by sponsoring anything from a single lightbulb to your own gaol cell.
The existing lighting is over 20 years old and urgently needs replacing to allowthe museum to display its current exhibits to better effect and attract major temporary exhibitions to Buckingham.
New lighting will also improve the building’s safety and ambience, reduce its carbon footprint and increase community use of the courtyard.
The cost of replacing the internal lighting in a Grade II*-listed building will be considerable, and the museum’s trustees need to raise £30,000 to realise their plans.
They plan to begin the project early next year and are already seeking grant funding.
But additional donations will be needed in order to make the project a success and they would be delighted to hear from anyone able to help by making a donation.
Opportunities range from sponsoring a lightbulb for £20 to sponsoring an exhibition room or a gaol cell from £200.
Donors will be invited to the museum relaunch in the spring, and the names of everyone who has contributed will be displayed in the museum during the coming year.
Cheques should be made payable to Buckingham Old Goal Trust.
