PREPARATIONS for Bicester’s Jubilee celebrations are well underway as the clock ticks down to the momentous event.
The weekend will be kicked off with green Jubilee drinks on the Saturday, June 2, organised by Grassroots Bicester at the eco demonstration building. It will run from noon to 3pm.
Bicester Lawn Tennis Club is holding a try tennis event between 1pm and 4pm while the Bicester Local History Society will be ‘firing the anvil’ to launch celebrations in Garth Park from 5pm.
Bicester Round Table is holding a beer festival and fireworks in Garth Park from 5pm to 10.30pm. There will be music and entertainment from the Bicester Concert Band, Hannah Clapham and The C7s among others. There will also be a Jubilee heritage walk.
Then on Sunday, June 3, there will be a Thanksgiving parade in the Market Square from 10.30am, followed by the Jubilee tree planting in Sheep Street, from 12.30pm.
The Big Jubilee Lunch street party will take place at Bicester Avenue with entertainment from The C7s, MSW Elite School of Dance, Chrgd NRG Dance Group and Inter 60s Express.
Schoolchildren from across the Bicester area will be making bunting to decorate the Avenue. People can either bring picnics with them or purchase food. There will be a shuttle bus from the town centre to the event during the day. There will also be a Jubilee party at Bure Park School, from 4pm.
On the Monday, it will be the turn of the Bicester Town Carnival, at Bicester Sports Ground. Then, at 10.30pm, the Jubilee beacon will be lit in the town centre. More information on events being organised can be found on www.bicesterjubilee.co.uk.
