RESIDENTS wrongly claiming single person’s discount on their council tax are being warned to come clean this week.
Those claiming in error can possibly avoid prosecution by owning up before a crackdown is launched by Cherwell District Council (CDC) in January.
Councillor Ken Atack, CDC member for financial management, said: “I have no doubt that there are people out there who have unintentionally made incorrect claims.
“It is quite easy to imagine a situation where someone moves in with their partner and the couple do not inform the council of their change in circumstances.”
Those caught out face a court summons and hefty costs. Contact CDC staff on 01295 227000 or email email@example.com for more information.
