A BUCKINGHAM GP is holding a public meeting next week to discuss local services for people with dementia and those who care for them.
Dr Alison Banks, of Verney Close Surgery, is holding the meeting in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society at Buckingham Community Centre on Tuesday, November 22, from 2pm to 4pm.
Dr Banks said: “As we look to shaping future services for people with dementia and those who care for them, it is important to understand how much awareness there is of the services already out there and to establish whether there are any gaps.
“Some of my patients have told me they didn’t know the Alzheimer’s Society offered support to everyone with dementia rather than just those with Alzheimer’s.”
Dr Banks is holding the meeting on behalf of United Commissioning, one of the three local groups set to take responsibility for the planning and buying of local health services from NHS Bucks in 2013.
The Alzheimer’s Society will be launching its new Life Story Dementia Café at the meeting, which meets on the first Tuesday of every month at Buckingham Community Centre. Other organisations, including Carers Bucks, will also be providing information on the services they provide.
