Police have confirmed a man from the south Northants area has died following a car crash in Pattishall today, Friday, December 28.

A seven mile stretch of the A5 Watling Street was closed for several hours while investigators surveyed the crash scene.

The road is now open, but delays may continue while tailbacks clear.

The accident happened near Butchers Lane at around 8.35am on the A5, and involved a black Maserati travelling in the direction of Towcester.

A 61-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and his family has been notified.

Pc Dave Lee, from the Road Policing Unit, posted on Twitter today: “Difficult morning. The crash we went to involved a single vehicle where the driver had hit a tree and died on scene.

“After trying to identify the male at the scene my colleague and I went and did the door knock telling his wife.

“The collision is being investigated but has yet again left total devastation to those left behind to pick up the pieces.”
