A5 from Towcester to Weedon Bec is closed after accident

Motorists are being advised to stay away from the A5 near Towcester following a collision this afternoon, Friday.

At around 1pm, a van and a car collided on the A5 near Fosters Booth, resulting in one of the vehicles crashing into the front of The Red Lion pub.

The A5 has been closed in both directions between the junction with the A43 at Towcester and the A45 at Weedon Bec while a fuel spill is cleared up by the Highways Agency. It is expected to remain closed for several hours.

According to Northants Police, there have been no serious injuries.

A spokesperson from Northants Police said: “Drivers are asked to avoid the area for the rest of the afternoon.”

The Highways Agency website says southbound traffic is advised to use the A45 to join the M1 North at Junction 16, then at Junction 15A to join the A43 South to rejoin the A5.

Non-motorway traffic should join the A4500 from the A45 and take the A5123 South to the A43.

Northbound traffic is advised to join the A43 to join the M1 North at Junction 15A and at Junction 16 to join the A45 West to rejoin the A5.

Non-motorway traffic should join the A5123 North from the A43 and then join the A4500 West to join the A45 West to rejoin the A5.
