Appeal to dog-owners’ conscience from club where 300 kids play

Buckingham Rugby Club has put out a plea to local people to keep dogs off the pitches.

President Alan Leach said the problem of dog fouling is one that periodically gets worse, and at the moment it is unacceptable.

He said: “We do absolutely recognise that the vast majority of dog owners are very conscientious.

“But there’s a small minority that let their dogs roam free.”

“All we want to do is appeal to people’s social conscience really. I struggle to think of anything more anti-social.

“We have 300 kids up here on a Sunday.

Mr Leach said the club is on private property.

But he added: “The place is open, we can’t possibly lock it all down.

“There’s a public right of way across one pitch.”

The club is asking people to keep dogs on a lead, stay on the cinder path when using the public right of way across the pitch and clear up any mess if it does happen.

“It’s just common sense,” said Mr Leach.
