Archive open day attracts 100 Old Latins

MORE than 100 Old Latins visited the Royal Latin School’s new archive base at its launch event on May 1.

Many of them brought documents and memorabilia from their school days, shared memories and renewed old friendships.

English scholar and author Dennis Hamley, who was at the school in the 1950s, said: “I can honestly say that my days at the Latin were the best days of my life. Without the care and guidance I received, I would not be where I am now”.

Other Old Latins who shared their memories were former head girl Janet Heady, Roger Wagland, whose family home was Rotherfield House, and Carmen Austin, head girl in 2006.

Headteacher David Hudson said: “It was wonderful to see so many of our former students from several decades – from the 1940s to the present day. I very much hope that many more Old Latins will return to share their memories and build the resources we have in our new archive base.”

The school intends the archive day to become an annual event on May 1. Old Latins and former teachers can contact Andy Cooper on 01280 813065 or email acooper@royallatin.bucks.sch.uk
