Beat the burglars with Bicester event

HOMEOWNERS can get advice on keeping burglars out at an event in Bicester town centre on Friday next week.

Members of the public can speak to local officers in Sheep Street between 9am and noon as part of Thames Valley Police’s Don’t Get Burnt This Summer campaign.

Visitors can also meet members of Bicester’s Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

Sergeant Nicki Entwistle, from Bicester Police Station, said: “Neighbourhood Watch brings communities together to tackle problems like burglary and it can encourage a sense of security among you and your neighbours by knowing that you are all looking out for each other.

“The main benefit of joining Neighbourhood Watch is that members are less likely to be a victim of crime as they are more aware of local problems and how to prevent them.”

Sgt Entwistle said Neighbourhood Watch members get regular updates on local incidents, and can be eligible for discounts on home contents insurance.

Crooks got away with jewellery, electrical goods and more than £2,000 in cash following a recent burglary in Ambrosden.

Three men were also arrested last month following a series of burglaries in Bicester.

“Neighbourhood Watch groups cost nothing to join and require very little time and effort from members,” added Sgt Entwistle. Visit www.thamesvalley.police.uk/crprev/crprev-home.htm for crime prevention tips.
