The lead developer behind Bicester’s eco-town, A2 Dominion, has bought 51 acres of land for the first development phase of the project.

Pre-construction work is set to start early in the new year, with the access road and housing shortly afterwards.

The first phase, known as Exemplar, will consist of 393 energy-efficient homes.

There will be 40 per cent open space to encourage local food production, protect habitats and wildlife and encourage outdoor activities.

The construction will also include a primary school, local shop, eco-pub and community centre.

The Exemplar phase has already been internationally recognised having been awarded BioRegional’s One Planet Living1 status, one of only eight developments in the world to achieve this.

Commenting on the land purchase, project director Steve Hornblow said: “This is a very exciting moment for NW Bicester which we have been working hard to achieve for some time.

“Over the next five years, some of the UK’s most environmentally friendly zero-carbon homes will be constructed to the highest sustainability standards providing residents with exceptional quality without compromise on the environment and needs of future generations.”
