A Bicester man walking home late at night fought off a would-be thief who tried to snatch his briefcase last week.

Thames Valley Police has appealed for information after the incident last Monday, March 4.

At around midnight, the 40-year-old man was walking home from Bicester town centre to Langford Village, along the footpath that runs from Bicester Town railway station to Mallards Way.

He felt a push from behind and turned around to see a man who then tried to grab his briefcase and pull it off him.

The victim defended himself by kicking out at the would-be robber, who then ran off towards the town centre.

The man managed to hang on to his briefcase.

Police said there were two other men present, who ran off when the victim turned around.

The man who tried to steal the briefcase is described as black, 6ft tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a dark blue hooded padded jacket with the hood up, which was cut in to the waist.

He was also wearing low-slung True Religion jeans with round white metal buttons on the rear and a pair of white high-top trainers with large tongues.

There is no further description of the other two men.

Thames Valley Police has appealed for any witnesses, or anyone who may have seen the men in the area at the time, to come forward.

Anyone with information should contact Det Con Ian Bailey at Banbury CID via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 101.

Details can also be left with the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
