Children making a Christmas record at Nicholas Hawksmoor School, in aid of Lewis Wares, who needs 50,000 for an operation, Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet will also sing on the record.

School children from Towcester are to be accompanied by some of the biggest names in pop music after recording a Christmas single to raise £50,000 for a fellow pupil.

In the next two weeks 80s pop sensations Paul Young, and Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet, will add their voices to a recording by pupils at Nicholas Hawksmoor School in Towcester.

The song, entitled Happy Birthday JC, was written by the grandfather of five-year-old Lewis Wares whose mum Emma is raising money for an operation to give Lewis, who suffers from a form of cerebral palsy, more independence. The selective dorsal rhizotomy operation frees cramped ligaments and muscles, allowing greater independent mobility. Last year Advertiser readers helped raise £45,000 for the same operation, which is only available on the NHS on a limited basis, for south Northants toddler Seb Strudwick.

Mrs Wares said her daughter Lily, aged eight, came up with the idea for a Christmas single and asked her song writing grandfather Stewart Blandamer to write it.

Having written hits for Frankie Miller, Tom Jones, Kim Wilde and Tony Hadley, Mr Blandamer was able to enlist the help of Paul Young producer Keith Bessie.

Mrs Wares said the whole thing was snowballing and added: “I’m just a mum trying my hardest for my son, so it is a bit daunting. I’m overwhelmed with all the time and effort everyone has put into it.”

It is hoped vocals by the stars will be added in the next few weeks, with the hope the single will be available for download from the third week in November.
