Book your flu jab if you are in high-risk group, says GP

editorial image

Buckingham GP Dr Fiona Pryse wants to remind people to book in for their flu vaccine if they are in a high-risk group.

All the Buckingham surgeries now have flu clinics scheduled over October.

For the first time this year, Steeple Claydon Surgery will also be running two sessions at the village hall, on October 4 and 15. Other agencies such as Carers Bucks, Aylesbury Vale District Council, the local fire safety service and the Patient Participation Group will also be there with information about services.

The aim of the national flu immunisation programme is to protect those most at risk of serious illness or death if they catch flu.

The Department of Health recommends annual flu vaccination for adults aged 65 and over, pregnant women, people living in care homes, carers, healthcare workers and all those aged six months and over with certain medical conditions. These include serious heart disease, certain chest problems, serious liver or kidney disease, diabetes, lowered immunity and anyone who has had a stroke.

Contact your surgery to book an appoinment.
