The Brackley builder who got more than he bargained for after finding an African bolt hole is set to return next week to fix a leaking classroom roof.

When Wayne Martin bought a holiday home he did not expect to end up adopting a near by school, but for the last eight years he has travelling back and forwards using some of his holidays to improve the Roka Primary School in Kenya.

Since his last visit in June Mr Martin and his friends have raised thousands of pounds, including sponsorship from a tandem parachute jump at Hinton-in-the-Hedges Airfield last month.

Next Thursday he will fly out again aiming to build a new school roof, water collection system, a water tank and new toilet block.

He said: “Since June we have raised over £6,500. This is truly remarkable and my heartfelt thanks go out to every person who was involved to help make this happen.”
