The Darius Brubeck Quartet is playing at Stowe School’s Ugland Auditorium on Wednesday, March 5.
Acclaimed pianist Darius Brubeck is the son of jazz legend Dave Brubeck.
The quartet, which also comprises Dave O’Higgins on sax, Matt Ridley on bass and Wesley Gibbens on drums, offers varied, interesting and accessible music with a strong programme of South African jazz, Dave Brubeck hits and Darius’ original compositions.
The quartet has acquired an enthusiastic following and its set at the Scarborough Jazz Festival was recently described as ‘Gig of the Year’ by critic Duncan Heining in Jazzwise.
Playing to consistently sold-out houses at regional festivals and clubs, including London’s Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express and 606 Jazz Clubs, the quartet’s acoustic sound is melodic, spontaneous and rhythmic.
Reaction to the Darius Brubeck Quartet has been excellent and last summer the group toured in the UK following the release of a new CD, Two And Four/To And Fro.
Another recent CD, Brubecks Play Brubeck, is a compilation featuring Darius, his brothers Chris and Dan and Dave O’Higgins.
The concert is at 7pm. Tickets £15 (concessions £13) from www.stowearts.co.uk
