Families flocked to the Old Gaol for Buckingham’s lights switch-on on Saturday.
About 1,000 people turned up for the event, when the mayor of Buckingham Ruth Newell was assisted in turning on the Christmas lights by Aylesbury Waterside panto star, Holly Brewer, who plays Sleeping Beauty.
The town was so busy, Miss Brewer had to be smuggled into the Old Gaol through the back entrance so she could change into her costume.
Children from Bourton Meadow Academy choir set the scene with Christmas carols.
A special Christmas artisan food and gift market was held from 2pm to 7pm on the Cattle Pens. Stallholder Nick Wright let customers try some of his speciality vinegars and there were other stalls.
Winslow Concert Band provided festive music and Santa made his first appearance of the year aboard the Santa Float, which begins its rounds of the estates and villages around Buckingham on Friday.
