Charity in need of more volunteers to help beat cancer

Banbury residents are being urged to attend a volunteer induction day for Macmillan Cancer Support which takes place on Saturday.

In 2012 many people in Oxfordshire volunteered their time and money to raise more than £490,000 for the charity which is enough to pay for ten Macmillan nurses.

In the next 20 years the number of people living in with cancer in Oxfordshire is expected to double from 20,000 to 40,000, which means Macmillan needs to raise even more money if it is going to continue to provide its services.

Sara Rawnsley, Oxfordshire fundraising manager for Macmillan, said: “We are hoping to inspire everyone to do a little bit rather than asking a few people to do a lot.

“That could mean making a donation when you see a Macmillan tin or it could be sparing a few hours as a one-off to volunteer at an event where we are raising money. We have something for everyone, big and small.

“That is why we are holding a Volunteer Induction Day on Saturday from 9am in Thame. We wanted to give people an opportunity to find out a bit more about us and the ways they can get involved with Macmillan.”
