The children’s swimming pool at Bicester Leisure Centre is set to reopen this weekend after being closed for more than a year for repair and refurbishment.

The Play ‘n’ Teach pool was closed in December 2012 following sudden and unexplained cracking of the pool base tiles. It is set to reopen at 11am tomorrow, Saturday, after major rectification works.

Following extensive technical investigations and advice, work has been carried out by a number of specialist contractors to repair and replace the concrete base, replace pipeworks, re-screed and completely retile the entire pool.

George Reynolds, deputy leader for Cherwell District Council, said: “The closure of the Play ‘n’ Teach Pool has been incredibly frustrating for all concerned, not least our customers who we know have missed this popular facility.

“While efforts have been made to get the pool reopened as soon as possible, technically challenging issues have unfortunately extended the time scales to successfully do so.

“However we are now delighted to be able to reopen the pool for the start of the new year and would like to thank everyone for their patience during the closure.”

Contractors have also replaced and installed water play features including a frog, rainbow slide and mushroom water fountain.

To celebrate the reopening Bicester Leisure Centre will host a free swimming open day on February 2, from 10am to 4pm.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the new play features and toys, participate in a range of activities and take advantage of special offers and promotions. For more information visit www.leisurecentre.com/bicester.
