Christians do their bit for Olympic peace ideal
Community
Christians Together In Winslow held an Olympic Peace Lunch on Saturday, September 22, at Mill Hook Farm in Granborough, as part of the 100 Days Of Peace initiative.
Entertainment was from a Zimbabwean choir from parishes in Luton and Dunstable, singing hymns and spirituals in their own language.
In return, they were asked to nominate a charity to benefit jointly with Tearfund. Proceeds will go to a Catholic seminary in Zimbabwe.
The 100 Days Of Peace initiative aims to promote peace-making in schools, parishes and communities for 50 days either side of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It follows the ancient Greek tradition which curtailed wars for 50 days before and 50 days after their Olympic Games, enabling the athletes to train beforehand and rest afterwards.
