College honoured by industry link-up

BICESTER motorsports engineering students are set to benefit from links with cutting-edge UK industries after their faculty won accreditation as a centre of excellence.

The Oxford and Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) Performance Engineering Centre in Telford Road has been chosen as a training provider for the new Composite Skills Alliance (CSA).

Made up of employers and training providers, the CSA aims to improve the UK composites industry – a key technology area for the automotive, marine and aviation sectors.

OCVC head of engineering, Andy Thomas, said: “We have an exciting opportunity to create bespoke composite training packages to meet the needs of the industry while also recognising the national skills shortage in this field.

“It’s a great honour to receive the accreditation as it recognises the high-quality delivery and training that OCVC has to offer.”

OCVC will act as a central hub for training, and will support other colleges.

Programmes at the Performance Engineering Centre will range from one-week courses to three-year advanced apprenticeships.

OCVC will be presented with the CSA accreditation at the four-day Autosport International Motorsport Show this weekend at the NEC in Birmingham.

Further information, including course details, are available from www.ocvc.ac.uk.
