Towcester’s new community building at Moat Lane could be called The Forum if district councillors agree.

South Northants Council’s (SNC) cabinet is due to discuss the name at a meeting on February 10. If approved the recommendation will go to full council on February 26.

The name The Forum was chosen to tie in with Towcester’s historic surroundings and is named after an open public space in the middle of a Roman city.

In making the recommendation, several building names were considered by a panel of future building occupants, which were assessed against several criteria, including practical applications, ease of use, having resonance with the activities that will take place within the building and to be in-keeping with its historic surroundings.

The building will include a bigger library with improved technology activities and services, the County Registrar’s office, an adult learning area, café, SNC’s offices and council chamber.

The registrar’s office will allow the building to be used for weddings and civil partnerships.

The building will also provide inside and outside space for meetings, exhibitions and local events.
