Crack down on town centre violence in Brackley and Towcester

Police are to carry out high visibility patrols in Towcester and Brackley this weekend in a bid to stamp out violent crime in the two towns.

Officers will target late-night drinkers in the town centres and have warned people who cause alcohol related crime they could be banned from the areas.

The clampdown is part of Operation Challenge, a police fight against violent crime.

Sergeant Leeanna Woodrow said: “Officers from Operation Challenge, South Northants Safer Community Team and Special Constables will be taking part in the initiative to reduce alcohol-related violence.

“As well as providing high-visibility patrols, we will be using the mobile police station in both towns as a base where people can pop in and talk to us about any issues they have. We will be offering advice on how to stay safe and highlighting the consequences of becoming involved in violent crime.”

She added: “We want to ensure that people can enjoy an evening out in these attractive towns safely and take robust action against those who break the law or act anti-socially.

“As well as reacting to any incidents as they occur and making arrests, early intervention is a great way of preventing potential problems from escalating.

“For example, we can issue Section 27 notices, forbidding individuals to return to the town centre for 24 hours and therefore stopping them potentially causing trouble later in the evening after drinking too much.”

The mobile police station will be in Towcester town centre tonight from 6.30pm and in Brackley town centre on Saturday from 6.30pm.
