Double bill to celebrate cinema’s major revamp

To celebrate the re-opening of Buckingham’s independent cinema, the Film Place, the venue is offering a double bill on Saturday, February 9.

High Sheriff of Bucks Carolyn Cumming, who lives in Maids Moreton, says it’s a great opportunity for all the family to enjoy the much improved facilities at the Film Place, which re-opened last weekend following a major refurbishment.

On Saturday, February 9, there will be a showing of Madagascar 3 (certificate PG) at 4.30pm for the younger audience, followed by a screening of Argo (certificate 15) for adults at 7.30pm.

Tickets for each film cost £5, OAPs £4.50, children/students £2.50.

From about 6.45pm, ticket holders will be able to enjoy a glass of wine and canapes, courtesy of the High Sheriff.

The cinema, in the University of Buckingham’s 180-seat lecture theatre, now boasts a full-sized screen, an upgraded projector and an improved sound system.

The revamp has been aided by the university, Buckingham Town Council and Aylesbury Vale Community Chest.

Mrs Cumming told the Advertiser: “It’s just fantastic, it’s like going into a real cinema. It’s huge improvement. It’s something to shout about. Now we really have a facility that will do justice to all the films on the the big screen.”

Madagascar 3 is the third animated sequel from the DreamWorks studio about the wacky animals once resident in Central Park Zoo.

Argo is an award-winning thriller, based on a true story about a hostage extraction from Tehran in 1979.
