Double celebration for 175-year-old thatched primary school
Pupils old and new gathered at Crougton All Saints Primary School on Wednesday to celebrate the school’s 175th birthday.
After a special assembly, including a birthday cake decorated with the school logo, village resident Claude Kent helped unveil the restored school clock.
Mr Kent’s wife Meriel had been a pupil at the school and when they visited for a community harvest lunch the first thing she asked was if the old clock was still there. Broken and stored away, the Croughton Parish Council gave the school £500 for the restoration and a commemorative plaque. The assembly was the first ceremonial duty for new headteacher Helen Goulder. She officially took over from Veneeta Rayner on Monday having taught at the school for 18 years.
She said she loves meeting parents who she once taught.
