TORRENTIAL rain didn’t stop play at the 11th annual Ali’s Dream Clay Pigeon Shoot on Sunday.

Despite the worst weather conditions since the event started in 2002, 62 guns turned up to have a go.

There was fierce competition and The Dog Squad, led by Dave Reeves of Bicester, were the outright winners, shooting 150 out of 200, three more than winners of the previous two years the Whaddon Wind Ups, led by Roger Jaworski.

Geoff French, of North Harrow, and his team The French Connection won the Novice team shield with a score of 82.

Last year’s Novice winners The Attoes, from Surrey, were runners-up, scoring 69.

Top Gun was Roger Jaworski who, despite weather conditions, shot 40 out of a possible 50. There was a shootout for Top Novice, after both Laurie Clift and Edward Attoe shot 26, with Laurie Clift coming out on top.

The event raised £2,208, bringing the total the shoot has raised over the last 11 years to £30,000. This will fund one year of a research project into brain tumours – the biggest cancer killer of children in the UK.
