First residents move into new care home

The first residents will move into the newly reopened Maids Moreton Hall care home on Monday, October 22, after the home passed its inspection by the Care Quality Commission on Wednesday.

So far, 31 new staff have been recruited to the luxury new home, which will allow for an initial intake of 20 residents.

The home will eventually hold 60 residents.

All staff have all just completed a two-week intensive training programme at Buckingham Town Hall, covering subjects such as care planning, administration of medication, food hygiene and an accredited course on dementia awareness.

Two of the ‘new’ carers are actually making a comeback at the hall, having worked there under the previous owners, Fremantle Trust.

The new deputy manager, Kerie Ambrose, is a Buckingham resident who was previously working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

She has a special affection for Maids Moreton Hall because her nan was formerly a cook at the old care home and her great-nan was a resident there.

Manager Linda Barrington-Cook has a long history of working in nursing homes.

The home was bought by the Berkley Care Group last year.

The group has conducted an extensive rebuilding project on the home, knocking down the ugly, flat-roofed extensions and completely revamping the historic hall itself.

This now houses communal areas, including lounges, a cinema, bistro and bar, spa, beauty salon and library.

A glass walkway joins the hall to a purpose-built, modern accommodation block.

Invitations have gone out to neighbours in Maids Moreton inviting them to an open evening next Thursday, when potential residents will also have the chance to look round and meet the staff.

Operations director Jenny Fuller said: “The response locally has been absolutely fantastic. The whole reaction has been positive.

“Everybody is looking forward to it opening.

“Everyone wants to get involved.”
