A teacher who has taught in Brackley for the past 39 years retired last Friday.

Gail Bragg, 61, who teaches at Southfield Primary and Nursery School said farewell following the end of year assembly.

Mrs Bragg, from Bloxham near Banbury, was surprised by pupils who had blown up balloons and was presented a picture of pupils’ faces spelling the word ‘nurture’.

She was also invitated to a party in January to celebrate her time at the school.

The pupils then performed a song that had been especially rehearsed for the assembly to show Mrs Bragg how much she meant to them.

Mrs Bragg told the Advertiser and Review that she had experienced different sides of teaching throughout her career. She began by teaching the oldest children in the primary school and has since taught across the school, most recently in the nursery.

She said: “I have had great fun in my time at Southfield.

“It was really pleasurable being part of the team here. I will miss it dreadfully.

“It’s just time for a change. I’d like to think about doing some minor acting roles.”

Mrs Bragg lives with her husband, comedian and actor Bobby Bragg, her daughter
Rebecca and her son Matthew.

She said: “My family are very supportive.

“We always support each other and enjoy spending time together.

“It will be great to see them more often.”
