Former deputy said Ben was academically, and personally ‘gifted’

Royal Latin School’s former deputy headteacher Andrew Cooper has described the death of 28-year-old Ben Ogden as an absolute tragedy.
Mr Cooper was a teacher at RLS for 40 years and retired last year as deputy headteacher.
He said: “Ben left the school in 2003 and went to Hertford College Oxford to read law and international relations. And he kept in contact and would come back to see staff.
“He also hosted an afternoon at his college with RLS sixth form students, prospective Oxford candidates having a look around, and Ben gave up his time and spoke with great enthusiasm about his life there. And he did love it at college.
“I kept in contact with him over the years because it was the college I went to many years ago. I remember standing there at school talking to him about it.
“I knew he graduated from there, and I knew he travelled extensively and was about to start with a law firm.
“And I just remember him very clearly as a very bright, personable and modest young man with a love of learning who just wanted to find things out and who had a whole career in front on him.
“So it is absolutely tragic.
“I popped into the school today when I had a call from them. They were preparing a statement. The Staff there who taught him will remember him as a really exceptional, gifted young man, both academically and in personal qualities.”
Ben was among seven Britons who were killed in an air crash in Nepal this morning.
A twin-engine propellor aircraft was due to carry backpackers to the Everest region when it came down shortly after takeoff on the edge of the capital Kathmandu.
All 19 people on board died, including five Chinese nationals and seven Nepalis.
The other dead Britons were named by the Press Association as Raymond Eagle, 58, Christopher Davey, 51, Vincent Kelly, 50, and Darren Kelly, 45, Timothy Oakes, 57, and Stephen Holding, 60.
