COMMUNITY groups in Bicester are preparing for four days of festivities to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee in June.

A Bicester Jubilee Steering Group will co-ordinate celebrations, with involvement from Bicester Town Council, MP Tony Baldry, Bicester Round Table, and Bicester Local History Society.

Activities have been planned to include all the town’s residents.

Steering group member Richard Mould said: “It looks like it’s going to be a very exciting weekend.

“If you look at the number of sponsors and partners involved, it’s going to be a wonderful weekend and a fitting celebration for the Queen’s diamond jubilee.”

Celebrations to mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign will begin with an anvil firing in Garth Park on Saturday, June 2.

A beer festival and fireworks display hosted by Bicester Round Table in Garth Park will follow the anvil firing.

On Sunday, June 3, a parade and open-air civic service will be followed by a jubilee tree planting ceremony in Sheep Street.

All residents are invited to a bring-your-own Big Lunch event in Sheep Street afterwards.

Bicester’s summer carnival has been brought forward to Monday, June 3, and a jubilee beacon will be lit on St Edburg’s Church later that night.

Local street parties will be held on the Tuesday.
