A Brackley resident has said he is frustrated at ‘sticking plaster’ measures taken to stop water leaking onto the A422 near Westbury which could, he fears, cause accidents.

Regular users of the road between Brackley and Buckingham will be familiar with the leak at the top of a hill at the junction to Finmere.

The leak has been intermittent over many years and in cold weather the water splashed around by cars freezes, creating an isolated ice patch.

Tim Cooper from Brackley raised the issue with Anglian Water last October, and despite their assurances they have done as much as they can the leak continues.

He said: “My wife went through on Tuesday, March 8, at around 8.30am, and there was a lady stood next to her car in a ditch. They keep putting down a little bit of new surface as a sticking plaster and 24 hours later its back out over the road.”

A spokesman for Anglian Water said the water was almost certainly a natural spring and the responsibility for maintaining the road lay with the highways authority.

In a statement from Transport for Bucks they said they were aware of the problem and had placed warning signs at the site. They are also salting the site regularly and checking drains as they investigate with Anglian Water.
