THE regeneration of a derelict part of Towcester’s town centre and the redevelopment of South Nortants Council current home came one step closer following the submission of full planning applications this week.

On Tuesday, November 27, SNC and development partner Morgan Sindall submited plans to regenerate Moat Lane which include; a new council office, library, registrars, commercial and public space, and a second application for Springfields and Green Lane.

There had been calls to build a care home at Springfields, but a single drawing at a public exhibition of the Moat Lane plans (attended by around 1,000 people) indicated the land could be used for housing. There were also concerns the Moat Lane site would not accommodate affordable housing, but in a press release SNC said the Springfields site will include affordable housing. SNC received a total of 375 responses to the exhibition and planning statements will respond to residents concerns about the council move, the provision of affordable housing, and the A5/A43 bottleneck.

The planning application is due be available online at www.southnorthants.gov.uk next week and the SNC development control comittee is set to decide on them late January.
