Gritting teams turning their hand to potholes

The gritting teams who worked to keep traffic moving on Bucks’ main roads during the recent snow have now been redeployed to fixing potholes.
Ten gangs from Transport for Bucks (TfB) are covering more than 2,000 miles of the county’s roads, systematically repairing damage caused by the severe weather.
Bucks County Council’s cabinet member for planning and transport, Peter Hardy, has asked residents to be patient while the teams work to repair the winter damage.
Reader Lacey Clark, from Winslow, said one pothole on the A413 southbound carriageway near Padbury caused several cars to break down on Thursday, January 31.
Miss Clark said: “There were several cars affected, all piled along the same stretch of road just before Padbury, with several tow trucks called as tyres and wheels were damaged. The police attended and the hole was quickly filled by Friday.”
Owner of Padbury’s New Inn, Nicola Hoddy, told the Advertiser: “I had three, maybe four, drivers come into my car park to change their wheeels.
“I gave out torches to help them, so they could see.”
Potholes in High Street, Thornborough, have recently been fixed, at the request of Thornborough Parish Council. The parish council has also reported potholes at the A421 end of Bridge Street.
TfB said patching work will be carried out there in the near future.
Thornborough parish clerk Maggie Beach told the Advertiser: “Every time I have reported a pothole in Thornborough, our local area technician has made sure it was fixed within a few days.
“I walk the village daily so I know what the roads are like.
“As parish clerk, I have established a very good relationship with our local area technician, David Hedley.
“He is extremely good.”
And she encouraged others to report potholes to TfB.
She said: “The potholes will not get fixed unless they are reported.”

TfB is also intending to roll out a new £25 million road resurfacing programme this spring. The budget for this will be considered by full council in February.
Mr Hardy said: “Maintaining our roads is one of our top priorities.
“Our £30 million road resurfacing programme has just finished, during which we resurfaced nearly 300 roads.
“Of course, a lot more needs to be done if we’re to meet the expectations of our residents and so council will be asked to approve a new £25 million programme to start this spring.”
