‘I feel outrageously privileged and lucky’

ALL the world’s a stage for Imran Momen, from Buckingham, who has won a coveted place at LAMDA, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

The 18-year-old Stowe School student, who has just done his A-levels, auditioned for three theatre schools – LAMDA, RADA and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Now LAMDA has offered him a place to study on its three-year acting course. Only about 28 students are accepted each year.

Imran, who lives with mum Helen, dad Mahboob and his two brothers and sister, said: “I feel outrageously privileged and lucky. It’s very confidence-building. It makes you convinced you’re not absolutely terrible.”

For the audition, Imran had to prepare a Shakespearean monologue and a modern piece.

He said: “It was nerve-racking, it’s always nerve-racking. I’m a wreck before I step on stage.”

Imran hopes to specialise in musical theatre, in which he has currently reached Grade 5.

He said: “I’ve only been singing a couple of years now. But I’ve always loved Shakespeare.

“I just want to go out and get a job in the acting world.

“Drama school is just the first step in what is a very long road. It’s very competitive and the talent out there is just outrageously good. I’m trying to stay grounded at the moment.”

Imran will be playing Sky Masterson in the Stage Experience youth production of Guys And Dolls at Milton Keynes Theatre from August 30 to September 1.
