A 39-YEAR-OLD woman from Brackley will be fulfilling the dying wish of her high school sweetheart when she takes part in the London Marathon this month.

Tony Nicholls died in June 2010, aged 37, after a six year fighting against a rare form of cancer.

On Sunday, April 22, his widow Angela will run the London Marathon to raise money for the Oxford Cancer unit which treated him.

She will be supported by her sister Debbie Willis and best friend Lorraine Eagles who is running for Brackley based charity Livibility.

While on his death bed in 2010 the couple watched a news item about the Olympics and Mr Nicholls asked his wife if she would run the marathon in the Olympic year in his name. Mrs Nicholls said: “Looking back, I realise it was his way of getting me to focus on something. He wanted to do as much as he could to make sure our daughter Eleanor and I were OK, once he wasn’t here any more. And it has helped, because it has given me a focus I wouldn’t have had.”

Angela and Tony met aged 15 at Magdalen College School in Brackley and married eight years later.

The full story will be the Advertiser on Friday, April 13.
