A MUSEUM volunteer found a link to his past as he examined items at the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum.

Dr Tom Shannon, who volunteers at the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Trust’s museum in Woodstock, found an ink pot that may well have been seen by his ancestor John Lawrence.

The ink pot was taken from the Kashmir Gate in Delhi during the Indian Mutiny by troops led by John Lawrence, then Chief Commissioner of the Punjab.

Dr Shannon said: “The trust’s collection relates to soldiers from the county who served all over the world, but I have to say that the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I realised the close connection here.”
