A 51-YEAR-OLD civilian police worker from Alderton has been honoured for her role in keeping the Northants force up to date with the latest computer systems.
In 1994 few realised how the role of computers in policing would grow. But from the moment Henny Cameron joined Northants police’s IT team she showed the insight, technical know-how and enthusiasm to create systems such as the Management of Police Information system and the Property Management System which now used countrywide.
Mrs Cameron is now medically retired, but after receiving the John Fursey Cup she said: “It was overwhelming to receive the awards.
“But is pleasing to be recognised for the support I gave front line officers, and the awards reminded me of what I’m missing out on.”
Henny’s innovative work has repeatedly gained recognition for the Force. Of particular note was her work on the development of MOPI (Management of Police Information) which led to it being recognised as national best practice and her contribution to the design and implementation of the Property Management System which is now depended upon by many UK police forces.
Over the years Henny’s contribution to the work of the Force has been acknowledged by the award of a Chief Constable’s Commendation, the Maureen Wilson Shield, two Assistant Chief Constable’s Commendations and a Chief Superintendent’s Commendation.
IT colleagues will know that they sometimes gain a reputation of being rather introvert in nature, their conversation limited to incomprehensible technical jargon. Henny certainly could not be described as a geek! Indeed the emphasis of much of her work has been on sharing information rather than so-called silo working. Her out-going nature and interest in all aspects of the work of the Force has meant she has become well known and respected by Police Staff and Officers alike through her involvement in the development of the many aspects of the Force as well her work as a long-term member of the Disability Carers Network.
