Join Buckingham’s Big Lunch to celebrate Diamond Jubilee
BUCKINGHAM’S biggest street party, celebrating The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, will be held on Castle Hill outside Buckingham Parish Church on Monday, June 4.
Food for 300 people will be served under bunting in a 1950s-themed Big Lunch being organised by local volunteers with the help of Churches Together and the town council.
After a lunch of hog roast or fish and chips, an afternoon of activities will keep families entertained with bouncy castles, face painting, a coconut shy, sack races, egg and spoon races and much more.
Rev Will Pearson-Gee said: “We are really excited about having a community event up on Castle Hill to celebrate The Queen’s amazing reign.
“We hope that everyone – young and elderly alike – will join us and have a wonderful time.”
The event will be opened by the new Mayor of Buckingham, Ruth Newell, who said: “I think it is a wonderful idea to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a big party like this and the town council is delighted to have been able to make it all happen with the help of many volunteers from the local churches.”
Tickets are available now from the Old Gaol for a suggested donation of £2.50 per adult and £1.50 per child. Under-two go free.
There are two types of tickets – one for the hog roast and one for fish and chips. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments will be on sale at the event. Tickets are only available until Friday, May 26.
