Revolutionary heat-seeking cameras will be used to discover which houses in East Hampshire need better insulation.

East Hampshire District Council has teamed up with the Energy Saving Partnership to use the thermal imaging technology to identify houses which could benefit from cavity wall and loft insulation.

As the weather starts to turn a local authority is urging south Northants residents to take advantage of free cavity wall and loft insulation, before the offer runs out next month.

Dermot Bambridge, South Northants Council’s member for environmental services, said: “This is a win-win situation. These grants will reduce home heating costs and also help the environment.

“I would strongly recommend having a free survey carried out to find out more about cavity wall and loft insulation, which can cut heat loss by almost a half.”

SNC has teamed up with the Sung Network and Absolute Insulations earlier this year to access grants to help reduce energy bills, and save up to £300 in fuel per year, which also helps protect the environment by conserving energy.

All district residents in with an average-sized home are eligible, and those in larger properties can get substantial discount.

Homes with a loft with more than 60mm of insulation will have to pay £129 towards any further insulation.

Anyone who would like to arrange a free survey, with no obligation, should call 0845 872 7417 (charged at local rate). Installation should take place within eight weeks with one of the Council’s accredited companies but this must be booked before November 15.
