Launch of new bus service to serve rural communities
Rural communities around Buckingham will soon be connected to the town with the launch of a subsidised Saturday bus service.
The new service will provide a bus to town and back on market day every week for 26 parishes in the area which do not currently receive a service. The schedule will allow passengers a few hours in Buckingham.
The service has been funded for the first year by Buckingham Local Area Forum (LAF), as part of its commitment to improve public transport in rural areas.
County councillor David Polhill, who chairs the LAF, said: “This new bus service will provide a lifeline for people in outlying areas and by running the buses on Saturdays, it means that families and working people can benefit from it.”
The LAF will fund the service for 12 months, to the tune of an estimated £9,100. After that, it is hoped parish councils, Buckingham Town Council and the Buckingham Traders Association will take over the subsidy.
The aim is to have the new bus service running by early December.
