There’s a chance for people in Buckingham to do some town planning next Wednesday, at two drop-in sessions organised by Buckingham Town Council

The public events form part of the town council’s public consultation into the Buckingham District Neighbourhood Plan.

The plan, which is currently being developed, will feed into the Aylesbury Vale Plan Strategy, which sets out development plans for the district up to 2031.

Under the strategy, growth will be focused on Aylesbury and Buckingham, which is set to take an additional 700 homes during that time.

The drop-in sessions, from 2pm to 5pm and 6pm to 9pm on Wednesday, October 24, in the ballroom at the town hall, are designed for residents to get to grips with paper and crayons and show where they think the new housing should go.

Hundreds of large maps of Buckingham parish will be available to colour in, along with pens, crayons, felt-tip pens and rulers.

There will also be copies of the flood map to study, and independent facilitators from CPRE will be on hand to help.

Town plan officer Sam Dix said: “Do we want one big development like Windsor Park/Lace Hill or lots of litte ones?

“There is a scarcity of brownfield land in Buckingham, so we’re looking around the outside now as to where the 700 homes could be accommodated.”

And he added: “We can’t just build houses. the town council is keen that development should be employment-led.”

People are being asked what type of jobs they want to see in the town, and what new infrastructure is needed.

The results of the events will be taken to full council on November 19 and presented to the public at a future event.
